Rector Antonio Meirelles and the new superintendent João Bennini sign a term of office

Professor João Renato Bennini Jr took over, this Thursday morning (30), the superintendence of the Prof. doctor José Aristodemo Pinotti (Caism) from Unicamp. He replaces professor Luís Otávio Zanata Sarian, who had been in the position for eight years. Bennini J. is in charge of Caism for the next four years, from 2023 to 2027.

In addition to the dean, Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles, and Unicamp's general coordinator, Professor Maria Luiza Moretti, the new superintendent's inauguration was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, who was at Unicamp to a visit to Caism and the Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Architectures and Viva Bem hubs, installed at the Instituto de Computação and recently opened at the University.

Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (DTG) at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Unicamp, Bennini holds a specialist title in Gynecology and Obstetrics, a certificate in the field of ultrasound in Gynecology and Obstetrics and General, in addition to a certificate in the field of fetal medicine .

“Dear community, thank you. I feel very happy, honored and motivated to reciprocate such confidence. We are at the beginning of a new cycle, in a moment of reflection, and the first thing I provoke myself to do is: it wasn't easy, but it was worth it”, said Benini at the opening of the speech, in which he thanked colleagues, Caism employees and the direction of the University. “When we look at this community, so consolidated, we cannot forget that, between its idealization and its implementation, there was a lot of work, a lot of struggle, a lot of dedication to such a noble cause, which is the health of women and newborns. born," he added.

“And, in this way, I salute all those who preceded us and built such strong foundations, maintaining a community with diverse thinking, but, at the same time, sensitive to the demands of society, creating a virtuous circle of administration and deliveries”, added.

In his farewell speech as superintendent, Sarian made a positive assessment of his eight years of work. “The Caism is special in many ways. It is a sanctuary of welcome and excellence, dedicated to women and newborns. It was built from the idea that women's health requires multidisciplinary attention, which goes far beyond purely medical issues”, recalled the doctor. “Our founder, Dr. José Aristodemo Pinotti, recommended comprehensive care at any stage of a woman's life as a non-negotiable guarantee of the dignity and morality of caring for the feminine,” he added.

For Sarian, Caism has not distanced itself from its primary functions at any time, even in the most difficult ones, such as during the pandemic, for example. “No cancer patient was left unattended or had their treatment postponed. No management was left without support. No newborn was left without a vacancy, and no gynecological patient was left behind in their care. And that's how we got here," he said. “And I am sure that in the hands of Dr. Bennini, will remain in his advances”, concluded Sarian.

Thank

“I would like to thank Sarian a lot for his eight years of management and, at the same time, thank Bennini for accepting this challenge. For Sarian, I can say that I hope we have contributed a lot in the years we have been together, and for Bennini, I hope that we can keep contributing to the continuity of Caism's actions”, said the dean.

The general coordinator of the University left a piece of advice to the new superintendent. “That, on your journey, don't forget to think about each piece that makes this health machine, which is Caism, turn”, she said.
