Unicamp and the Federal Revenue began negotiations to expand a cooperation agreement signed in 2019, in a move that could reach eight different areas of research at the university. In a meeting with the rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles, this March, the Federal Revenue delegate at Viracopos airport, Camilo Pinheiro Cremonez, requested support from the University in the process of developing technologies and protocols for the technical identification of materials, in addition to IRS staff training.

According to the Revenue, the collaboration potential is wide. One of the areas would be the analysis and identification of precious and semi-precious stones and rocks. Unicamp professionals could also contribute with processes for the analysis and identification of chemical products and products of animal and plant origin, in addition to DNA analysis. They could also assist in the development of software, applications and the transformation of electronic equipment; supporting the Aduana TV team in the development of audiovisual products; in the analysis and identification of works of art (including antiques) and in the elaboration of historical documentaries; in the production of versions and subtitles in different languages for audiovisual products.

Partnership may result in the development of technologies and protocols for the technical identification of materials, in addition to training for Revenue officials; on the other hand, Revenue would intensify donations of materials and products seized at the airport

The delegate also asked Unicamp to support the development of technologies and protocols for detecting illicit products and materials at customs, in addition to procedures that can facilitate the donation of seized products to public agencies and institutions that support vulnerable groups and people.

The general coordinator of Unicamp, Maria Luiza Moretti, the dean of University Development, Fernando Sarti, and members of the Dean's Office and the Attorney General's Office participated in the meeting. Federal Revenue auditor Elizabeth Walter de Menezes and federal analyst Laerte Toporcov Junior were also at the meeting.

Representatives of the Federal Revenue presented already established results, such as the donation of products destined to the medical area and the support of the Medialogy course in the production of audiovisual products about the performance of the Revenue.

The dean and the general coordinator pledged to mobilize members of Unicamp's university community interested in meeting the Customs demand. Revenue representatives, in turn, pledged to intensify donations of materials and products that can meet the university's demands.
